Oh its just a normal ST?

Brilliant engine, and better handling car. But it feels bigger and its not as quick as the GTI. Also very poor economy. GTI is better for me

had the ST2 for just over a year before I got my golf very nice car but like smartypants said they harn't has fast has the GTi,  they do need a remap to reap the rewards. The engine is one of the best and the noise is some thing else especially with a decat, milltek and gen 2 induction, sounds like an old audi UR quattro rally car.

Out of frustration I walked into the Ford dealership when looking for a GTI

When the lacky finally came to see me, asking how he could help, I replied with, "Well, you can't be as inept as those w@nkers over there" (pointing to the adjacent VW dealership)

"got any STs in?"

Salesman faffed about, and said he could get one, but I would have to pay to see it.....

Needless to say, I walked out.

Drew the line at going into the BMW dealership though!!!!

Driven a few. As already said, sound great with awesome engine, but thirsty (22-26mpg).

Handling sharper, but not as refined. Great seats (only 4 in the ST3), but feels ordinary compared to the Golf (it is only a Ford). The lower models (ST1 & ST2) miss out on some useful kit, like ESP, auto wipers/lights etc that come std on the Golf.

I'd say it was faster, though (does have 222bhp as standard). A great car, but not as good an all-rounder as the Golf.

Found the focus ST rolled in corners and not as direct handling or give you the confidence to chuck it into bends.

Only thing i liked about it was the engine/exhaust note over the std GTi music.

Milltek soon addressed that issue on my Ed30.

I'm afraid you won't get a very objective answer on a GTI's owners' forum!

Most of us would have looked and - and quickly dismissed - the ST's before we settled on our cars.  :nerd:
MKV GTI | Reflex Silver | 5-dr | Anthracite 17" | Manual | Highline MFD | Cruise | Revision 'D' DV | Dirty Pipes |

The GTD is like a blow up doll. The GTI is like a proper woman. Sure the doll might last longer, and the woman might have higher running costs, but which would you rather have?
