IPhone/IPod as headunit? Is this possible?
« on: 29 November 2009, 18:47 »
Guys,

Wondering if anyone can offer some advice.. I have a Golf Mk3 GTI 16V with factory standard stereo system. I would like to install a new cheap yet functional setup which centres around my IPhone. Essentially I would like to end up with a simple dock on the dash for the IPhone, perhaps connected directly to an amp/speaker setup. I don't see the need for a headunit unless I require radio (which I don't.)

Does anyone know if this is possible?

If so, does anyone have any recommendations for a suitable amp and speaker setup for under £300? (or even less!)

Lastly, a bonus question - any ideas on how to also incorporate bluetooth functionality??

Thanks for your thoughts...(a naive?) Andy

You can get an iPod/iPhone connector to RCA/Aux out. The RCA one would connect directly to an amp.  The problem is charging as neither will do that. You can get a decent amp and speakers for your budget. Any ICE shop will be able to assist and might even set-up what you are looking for.

why?

why not have a decent headunit in there for the same price...

artwork, playlists etc all appear in the menus

you could incorporate the bluetooth add-on if you wanted that... then everything would run through your headunit... easy to use/navigate, charges ipod, deals with your calls through speakers and mutes the stereo automatically

i have the x001 and it really is very good... works brilliantly with my ipod which sits happily tucked away in the glovebox

Hey dude, I got the alpine ida-x305 head unit, quite pricy but works amazingly with ipod and iphone, doesnt have bluetooth out the box though but I prefer not to use that as it will drop in battery where as plugging it in charges.

I also baught some focal 130 cvx for front speakers in my mk2, they work really well.
