Well if any of you believe that rear fog lights at night dont dazzle then you are complete morons!

perhaps, if it is foggy and you are still being dazzled by the rear fog lights of the car in front then you are TOO CLOSE?

i really don't think we're the morons in this debate.

Look its all quite clear to me and written in "legaleeze".

I may not have put it correctly in legaleeze terms but use of rear foglights at night are basically illegal as they do dazzle!

Their use in ONLY permitted in "seriously reduced visibility"!

If you people cant understand plain English thats not my fault!

Not only do rear foglights dazzle at night no matter how close you are they also mask the indicators and brake lights!
You can all nit pick and argue with me all day and night but the LAW is quite clear!

I can read thanks... you however have changed your take on it by including this...

I may not have put it correctly in legaleeze terms but use of rear foglights at night are basically illegal as they do dazzle!

Their use in ONLY permitted in "seriously reduced visibility"!

which we all knew and no-one was arguing against... which is not what you meant when you said

You are not allowed to use rear fogs at night.

which, as Diamond Hell rightly said, is sh!t

so... I am asking you the following...
can I use my rear fogs at night if it is foggy? yes or no?
can i use my rear fogs during daylight if it is foggy? yes or no?

For those that cant understand the English language - "seriously reduced visiblity" can indeed mean fog, but can also mean heavy rain and spray. Or any sudden unexplained natural or man made occurrence, like smoke.

Also as a very experienced driver who has driven long distances in fog I can tell you that fog varies! One minute you can see 300 metres the next 50 metres.
So that legal phrase is stated in that manner as to be subjective as well as all encompassing.
So the reverse may happen in that you should have been using fog lights due to the prevailing conditions.

As an answer to a yes/no question clearly a career in polotics is beckoning.

Len, yesterday:

Whether it's day or night, if the visibility is seriously reduced by, let's say - fog - then you are by law allowed to turn on your foglights, provided they will not dazzle other road users - the visibility restricting effect of fog prevents other road users being dazzled unless, as flagged by Guy - they are very close to you.

It's no good quoting 'the Law' on this, because 'the Law' is the interpretation of The Road Vehicles Lighting Regulations 1989 Act.  The interpretation of this act by everyone but Len seems to be as follows:

Quote
If it's dark and foggy thus visibility is seriously reduced you should turn on rear and/or front fog lights to make other road users aware of your position.  Rear fog lights allow your vehicle to be identified from a greater distance in fog, thus improving safety.

If it's dark and the fog clears, you should turn off your foglights, as they will dazzle people.

Len, do you use the middle lane of motorways like, a lot?
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

Thank you, someone with sense.
