I assume that Super Chips is a VWR agent and/or has a licence to supply and fit VWR's products  -  what's the difference between Super Chip's £400 upgrade and VWR's £1,500 work (besides the £1,100)?

Must admit warranty issues do concern me and if spending £1500 or even £400 on the superchips mod and the car then has problems I would be gutted if I then had to spend an absolute mint to sort it out, so probably will stick with my 210bhp GTI after all.

Cat back exhaust, air filter, an insurance warrenty to fill in were VWs will not cover, Boot badge, Certificate saying whats been done, fitting. Guess you have been talking to pulmans again as they are VWR agents.

people do seem to be 'chipping' their cars nowadays as a matter of course  -  I'm happy with the 'standard' Gti but, like most things, it's a personal thing...

the guy from Pulman, Mike Simm, who is handling the sale of the Gti to me, he mentioned the upgrade to me and brought one of their Gtis with the upgrade to me for a test drive  -  I didn't ask to test drive the upgraded car, I just wanted another test drive in a DSG before deciding between DSG and manual.

I've had 2 maps for a Mk5 DSG.  At first they limited the torque at low to medium revs then, once VW had OKed higher torques for the DSG box, they gave same power boost to both manual and DSG cars.  The first map was slower but smoother, better in the wet.  The second map bangs the torque in with a thump.  Both are a lot faster than standard.  However in some ways the car is sweeter with the standard map (but not as quick).

The unit is well made and easy to use.  It swaps back to the original map with ease, unlike other remappers who swap back to a generic map, loosing your original.

Well worth doing.

I would not let those cowboys at superchips anywhere near my car again...

Search the mk5 forum about them - having received about 8 different maps for my ed30 and visiting them at their HQ i realised they have not
got a clue what they are doing - they produce remaps for every car make under the sun from kia to ford but specialise in none..

Its a big decision remapping a car especially one less than a year old - do some research and don't go by autoexpress review  they publish what people pay them to do along with their heavily photoshoped pics of cars

one word : revo

I think people should go on their website and read the small print.

VWR does not cover anything other than their products ie defective cat or ecu. If your engine got blown up by they remap, sorry chaps, they don't want to know. Superchip seems to suggests they have that cover but will they honour it if something goes wrong? I am still undecided!

Another factor to consider = it is a lot of hassle to claim something from VW customer service or your local stealers if something goes wrong from a standard car. Wonder what their response going to be if the car is modded!
