Noice one JV

Already posted this in dub rides but thats just turned into a nurburgring chat so here we go again.
I've owned this car now for 6 months and i've become completely besoted with it, it was totally original when i bought it, i flew from newquay cornwall to manchester then hoped on the train to carlisle to get it! got all the way back on one tank of fuel which inclded a spirited drive with an R32 for about 30 miles.

Love the power band on the 8v so im convinced with good handling mods and de-restrict that engine a bit, i may just have a chance, all whilst keeping it as a sensible "family car"

It was totally standard except for the head unit, 132,000 miles with 3 owners from new, full service history, and an imaculate interior.

heres some pics when i first got it!

First mods were 16v rear lights and tidy up a couple of bits, then i bought a full genuine exhaust system from VW, 2 new rear wheel bearings, new rear brakes, new ARB drop links and that stupid blue sensor. The car idled funny when i got it so changed the ISV for another, which turned out to be knackered too, so i ditched the ISV all together and set the idle manually on the throttle body, which works fine, just need adjusting every now and then.

Then the first of the mods started.

Venom shocks and springs (medium stiffness) 30mm rear 45 front, rather comfy but firms up when you throw it in a corner
Rear strut brace
slightly wider 15" mim 1900's ET13
Toyo T1'R all round
Re-furbed linkage kit
Weighted linkage
rear seats removed

and this is how she stood after that

Unfortunatly all was well until about 3 weeks ago, i'd had a suspect head gasket for a while so i sourced another engine with 100k on it for tuning. i ran the car until it went bang! Had a rag down the A30 with another 8v belonging to a friend, the first sign of trouble was after we'd overtaken a AC Cobra replica, to which he got a lovely face of oil and water! then she lost power, stopped, header tank exploded, water pump exploded, pipes were bulging, it actually blew a spark plug clean out of the head! steam pouring from the exhaust 10 minutes after switching off, we knew it was dead but amazingly bump started fine (my mate sent a screwdriver straight through the battery, cheers joe) limped it for 2 miles to a petrol station where she idled for 5 whole minutes before completely seizing up! It was epic!

So curently shes engineless on the driveway, ive done some welding and vital works to the engine bay, re-painted it and re-ran the wiring loom through the chassis legs (my favorate mod so far! *smug*)

I've also done

New track rod ends
Hottuning 4 branch
Modified AFM with cone filter
Stainless inlet pipe
Ditched PAS in favour of manual rack, no belt means more gee gee's
New knock sensor
Put the front strut brace on
Put the wishbone brace on

Theres loads more to do but xmas is coming so im gona have to drop some hints to the missus regarding G60 brakes and a sh*t load of copper pipe!

Also really want to hear from people who have played with the Newman 276 cam!

I've got loads more pics on my phone so i'll get uploading when i remember to bring my USB dongle with me! Cant wait till its finnished! Seriously in love with my little brum brum!
