I thought the 310 was the horrid thing you get standard with the Golf... or is that an RCD310?

I don't think we get an option of an RNS310 on the UK do we?

Grey with 18" silver wheels:

Looks a bit anonymous. Can't help thinking it would look better with the black wheels.

I prefer the grey one. The black/black wheels just needs a little red light moving back and forth across the grille and it's complete  Either that or a driver with a light sabre...

Silver Chariot,

Thanks for posting that link. All R pics gratefully received. I actually like the Grey and would like Carbon Grey even more, were it available on the R. I tend to think that Shadow Blue will actually work quite well with the R and am increasingly less convinced by Rising Blue. I'll need to see it in the metal before I finally decide.

Carbon Grey is proving to be a very popular colour on the standard GTI. In fact, of all the London-based GTIs I've seen so far have been this colour. I wonder if VW UK can be persuaded to offer it on the R?

Car Magazine review of R will be published mid-January. The auto mags are all testing it next week. Heard something interesting, but don't know if it is true: Golf R output is listed as 265 bhp, i.e. the same as the Scirocco R, Audi S3 and TTS, but in reality it may be more to compensate for extra weight of Haldex AWD system. Whatever, expect it to lap any given track faster than Scirocco R due to increased traction.
Golf R - almost on order - 5-door, DSG, Rising Blue, leather, 19" alloys, RNS510 with Dynaudio, ACC, Sunroof, Parking camera and sensors, luxury pack and cruise control.

Keep 'em coming!  All these pics are starting to get me excited again...  I don't know why as we've still got a LONG wait!

I like the grey one - I had a grey ED30!
I always wanted to put black wheels on my ED30, but I didn't think they'd go.
For me, black wheels need to contrast the car... so they need to be on a light car.
White, silver, red all look   Even yellow cars (which I'm not a fan of) and the orange S3's look good with black wheels.  Again - light car / dark wheels.
Thats why I'm not so sure of the rising blue with black wheels because I don't think they'll stand out as much as shiney silver ones would on a rising blue car.  Dark car / light wheels!  I did see a blue Astra yesterday with graphite coloured wheels that went well.
Just my opinion though...

Carbon Grey looks great on the GTI's.  If I'd been buying a GTI, that may well have been my colour of choice - but again, it would have to have silver wheels!
I'm afraid that shadow blue does nothing for me at all.

Tailpipe... when you say the review will be in Car magazine in the middle of Jan - I'm guessing that'll be the February issuse (or maybe even March) since these magazines are normally so far ahead!  If they're doing the test next week will the weekly magazines have the review sooner?

VW cars have always had more power than advertised as.  The Ed30 was advertised as 230bhp, but the majority of them were 245+bhp out of the factory.  I don't know why they do this.  Perhaps its to keep the insurance group / cost down.

It's quoted on the VW UK website as follows:

Scirocco R - 265PS (261BHP)
Golf R - 270PS (266BHP)

Don't know what they've tweaked for an extra 5 PS. Torque figures are identical.

The Germans fairly like their sunroofs and recarros!
I wonder if they just put everything on them as they know they'll manage to sell the first lot quite easily?
£550 extra on the wheels instead of an extra £3080 on the seats would have made it look better though

So we are now saying that if you go for the 19" wheel option in either silver or black you get black Xenons and with 18's you get silver.

I still don't see why, or is it if you go for the black wheels you get black Xenons?

I think its any 19" wheel gives you black lights, and 18" standard wheel gives you silver lights.

VERY odd reasoning behind that - but who knows what they're thinking?!

The grey one is actually somebodys order. The white and black ones are dealer orders, I think.

No blue ones yet, as initially Rising Blue was not available to order in Germany.
