Golf R looks nice.. although cant help feel that VW are going to cheapen the look of all sporty models with this whole r-line model idea. rather a little like audi have gradually introduced the s-line range to the point where if its not an s-line its hardly desirable

Agreed....I was behind an 'R Line' Tiguan the other day. R no longer means flagship model.

It is as bad now as all those BMWs with M badges.......

BMW have ruined their M series, since most BMW's now have M badges all over them.
My missus has a BMW 120i M sport Cabro... which has M badges on the wheels, steering wheel, gear stick, kick plates etc, M suspension - and has the speed of a dying slug!

Audi's S-line is kind of the same, but their top RS models stand out.
I just hope we don't get a Golf R-line over here thats a direct clone of my Golf R without any power!!

Me too. But, even if they did, the details on a high spec Golf R are sufficiently different (similar to Audi S-Line versus RS). I'm thinking of the 19" wheels, black headlight details, twin pipes with gloss black diffuser, etc.

Even Merc are doing it. All the Sport models have AMG wheels, AMG body kit, AMG this that and the other.

That's the whole point of these cars. Discreet performance . For most people like my aunt who know nothing about cars. They just see a golf gti or golf r just another golf with go faster body.

For the same reason, most 911 turbo driver drivers hate driver with boxster and cayman. No one in the street know their turbo cost more and is a lot faster than their lesser models!

If one want to stood out and tells people you got a fast car. Buy an Aston or R8.

I don't care less a Golf GTD looks like a Golf GTI. I think if you want to buy cars like the GTI or R, just ignore what others is doing to their Golf and enjoy yourself with a proper motor!

Good find!  Hopefully that means we'll get some reviews soon.
I'm now seriously considering calling the dealer and adding leather to my spec, as it looks great on the white one.  I'd love recarro's but £3k is too much!!
I think the white one looks amazing
