Jet Wash an engine bay
« on: 15 November 2009, 17:40 »
Is it okay to Jetwash a Mk2 8V Gti?

I've had a play with degreaser today as it really is a disaster under the bonnet. I think it just shows u dont give a toss about the car when it looks so crap under there!!!

5 mins took one area from this to this:

You can however you have to take care in covering all electrical points with something like cling film.

If it only took 5 mins to get the results above, why not spend a bit more time and do it without a pressure washer, it will be alot safer this way.

You will be amazed at how clean you can get it by hand, then you have just got to try and stay on top of it.

Either go for something like Meguiar's Super Degreaser or even just the Meguiar's APC should do a pretty good job. Both are available in gallon bottle's and when mixed 4:1 they will last forever.

Cool, will try get me some of that!

Not mechanical enough to strip the engine bay down so just gonna do the best i can with everything in situ.

I think it will be quite theraputic though, the wife thinks i'm a nutter polishingthe engine of a 20 yr old £400 Golf!!

I'm the same, I quite enjoy spending a day on my car.

I had all the wheels off a few weeks ago to clean the arches and get the alloys protected, only to sell the car the week after

get the engine and bay warm first  then spray your de-greaser/apc on and the oil and crud should come off alot easier.
