hope this is the right place,

i still have the standard cd/tape unit in the car but the cd player doesnt work, it keeps saying no disc or check magazine.

i dont have a changer,

is there a way to repair the cd player and is there any common faults with them

I had a similar problem, i used one of those disc cleaners to clean the lens on the CD player which worked for a few seconds then kept giving me the
same message. My guess is that it's on it's way out.
