Couple of 8v technical help bits!!!

Right had a good look at my new chariot and need some advice.....

1. On top of what i think is the gearbox (I know dick all!) is a threaded hole, about the size of a 2 pence piece.  Inside is a spinning wheel (Clutch??? Flywheel??? God knows!!!!). Either way i'm sure there should be something in the said hole!!!! Any ideas if its a metal plug, plastc plug??? Part number???
2.  It appears to be leaking a bit of fluid. I'm 90% sure it aint petrol. The resevoir to the right of the engine is low, is that power steering or brakes? I think the brakes are the reservoir up by the scuttle on the left. Am i correct???  The leak is materialisng at the drivers wheel arch, just a tiny drop showing on a wet road.  Any likely causes???

3.  Lights appear to slow down blower fans and visa versa.  Are the electrics a bit shoddy on mk2's or should i check the battery???

Sorry to sound like an idiot but i need simpleton answers so i can get her through winter!!!!

The spinning wheel is the flywheel. That hole should be covered by a green plastic plug, no idea of part number though. Shouldn't be a problem as long as nothing falls into the gap.

in relation to the dripping fluid at the drivers wheel arch, get someone to sit in the car with the engine running whilst pumpin the brake n turning the steering wheel whilst you are looking for leaks in that area mate, thats what I would do anyway

3. I presume this is when the engine is idling? Putting the lights on puts more load on the alternator so the blower will slow down a bit as the current is shared. Once you get on the move it should not really be noticeable.

There are two reservoirs on the right side of the engine (as you look at it) the higher one of the two is coolant and the little square one on the chassie leg is power steering fluid.

Coolant looks fine, leeking fluid is deffo power steering upon further investigation.  Topped it up for now and will investigate when it's insured and on the road next week.

make sure that pump dont run dry or it will be ruined as i found out!

The PAS lines that connect up to the reservior were a right pain to get back on. Worst part of the job

I'll keep it topped up if i have to drive it to the garage!  Although popped to my local car shop and they had power steering fluid or ATF fluid (which it says ATF on the reservoir)

Gonna pop to the stealers after searching on here, as Halfrauds seem to get a slating for their product/price of fluids.

What would be a worse case scenario?? Pump? Steering rack? pipe??

Last thing for now, temp gauge is fubar'd.  If i buy a new sender and that dont solve it i can assume the instruments are shagged (I know this is common on T4's which use very similar clocks).

So with my new sender in place can i buy a cheapo temp gauge and wire it direct to the sender?  I know it's kinda cheating but i wouldn't mind knowing how close to exploding the engine might be!!!!!
