Could it could be the "fly by wire" accelerator in the Golf.
I have seen a few threads about these going faulty where the car seems to lose power and "cut out" for a few seconds. Most reports say this is a once in blue moon experience
Does it feel like the DSG is trying to find a gear (i.e changing from 2 to 1 just as you press the go pedal ?) or does it feel like there is just no response from the accelerator ?
