Confusion - Speccing Luxury Pack
« on: 31 October 2009, 16:01 »
I was up at the dealer today ordering my Golf R.
One of the options I wanted was the Electronic Folding Mirrors - so I chose the Luxury Pack.
My dealer told me that in ordering the Lux Pack, this would then remove the Convenience Pack (which is standard).  This would mean that I no longer have the auto dimming mirror, auto lights, and auto wipers.  I asked why - and he said he didn't really know.
Apparently a customer ordered in a MK6 GTI and was gutted that they removed these things - as he could have both on his MK5 at once.

I've looked on the website, and can't see any mention of this - but it was mentioned in the print out he had to show me when we went through the options pricing.

Folding mirrors aren't the end of the world - but for £120 I'd like to take them... but not enough to lose the auto lights etc.

Any ideas?

By the way... its half way down page 8 of this document:
http://cdn.volkswagen.co.uk/assets/common/pdf/pricelists/golf-gti-vi-pricelist.pdf

'Convenience pack and Luxury pack cannot be specified in conjunction with each other'.

WEIRD

I specced the Lux pack for the folding mirrors too.  As far as I can tell, my MkVI GTI still has the auto dimming mirrors, auto lights and auto wipers.

I say as far as I can tell since:

1, The Auto lights and Xenon DRLs means that the lights are pretty much on all the time.
2, There is a auto dimming switch on the rear view mirror which turns on and off, but I haven't really noticed the difference.
3, I've not worked out how to use the auto wipers as yet(!)

I've just read the manual you provided a link to....
As far as I can tell the luxury pack supercedes the convenience pack
I.e. It does everything the convenience pack does (standard on gti and R etc) + folding mirrors etc.

So you can have both packs but it is called the luxury pack!

There are two prices for the luxury pack, the lower price for the gti as it already has the convenience pack fitted, ie most of the luxury pack! speccing the lux pack on the gti just adds the rest. your dealer is a dipstick!

But why does it say this half way down the page.
3. Convenience pack and Luxury pack cannot be specified in conjunction with each other.

The dealer told me about a customer who recieved their car and it DIDN'T have the auto lights because it had the lux pack.

The bottom Lux pack is for the GTI / R which already has most of the things.  Its just the above statement that scares me!

Because if you have a poverty spec Golf and try to spec both, you'll be buying half the stuff twice.

Ah well... I'll make the call tomorrow and see if he'll change my order.
£120 for folding mirrors seems fairly cheap as a retrofit would be about £600!
