3-door or 5-door

If you did a poll of non gti owners and showed them the 3dr and the 5dr side on,i bet 80% would say the 3dr looks better,hence why its on the front cover,its a hot hatch not a taxi

ha ha ha lets put a wager on this? But how will we scientifically prove our points? Since I suspect non-GTI owners are already suspect in having a deficiency in their intellectual prowess since they didnt buy a GTI in the first place...?

To the OP, 3 door cars always look better than 5 door cars (and I've got a 5 door car) but 5 doors is much more practical.  Especially with babies/toddlers.  Getting a toddler in and out of a car seat in the rear is so much easier in a 5 door car than a 3 door one.

Come to think of it, the Golf looks great in both 3 and 5 doors.  There's really not that much difference - IMO.

I realised in a forum such as this, we should actually split all our discussions between the zit-covered teens, young adults, thirty somethings and the old farts...  I think the risk of flaming one another will be dramatically reduced... ha ha ha

Now now, remember the 1998 Top Gear where Clarkson put the Mk IV up against the Peugeot 306 GTi-6 (of blessed memory)?  The Pug wiped the floor with the Golf on all fronts, but Clarkson gave the bout to the Golf because - it came in a 5-door option!

I had to get a 5-door this time, first time ever, because of changed circumstances meaning that I actually have passengers in the back more than once a year.  It drives me nuts, because I'm so used to having access to the back seat area through the driver's door, and having to open a different door is a pain in the backside.  In a way, too, it makes me feel that the car isn't my own exclusive transport because it's set up to, OK, be a taxi.

But it really is worth it when you have to carry actual people in the back seats, as opposed to assorted cargo.

And the difference in looks isn't so much, when you really get down to it.

3 doors look nicer than 5. 5 doors are more practical than 3. The more doors, the heavier the car. The less doors, the less strength as the doors are structurally superior in stength to normal bodywork, plus the cutouts are re-inforced. If I were single, I would have a three door. (My G60 is a 3 door.) But if I were to buy one of these as a family car, 5 door.
Pro's and cons for both. Doesn't matter how many doors, it still looks nice. It's a matter of what you want it for.

Nope I prefer the look of a 5 door. It is purely subjective though.
3 door for me is too fat arsed and van like especially with the rear windows tinted.
