There's a guy in my work who has a 3 door TDI. I actually think the 3 door looks better on the mk6. I've got a 5 door for family reasons and also the fact that the doors are so long on the 3 door I wouldn't be able to open them in my garage! Otherwise I'd have got a Scirocco.
The 3 door mk5 just looked a bit fat where the mk6 has a nice line up the side. Only works on certain colours though IMO.

ha ha ha I believe that the younger generation will definately have a different outlook on things especially in a debate of which is better i.e. 3 or 5 doors... Once you are married and you have the first kid, your perception and the effort needed to shove the seat in front all the time especially when it is raining or when the kid just made a mess in the back seat, trust me, will change!! A 5 door option is a god-send!!... But if you are single, get the 3 door... save some quid as well... but I would get the new Z4 or the 135i coupe instead...

I realised in a forum such as this, we should actually split all our discussions between the zit-covered teens, young adults, thirty somethings and the old farts...  I think the risk of flaming one another will be dramatically reduced... ha ha ha

No, I have a 5 door and imho the doors on the 3 are too big, catch one in the wind and god knows what damage could be done!!!

3dr looks better and more sporty, why do you think all the publicity photo`s and brochures have the 3dr on the front page  :wink:5dr is more practical if you have kids and its your only car.

I agree on several levels that a 5 door is more practical.  The doors are smaller and easier to manouvre, its easier to get kids / baby seats etc into the back.  However, I still feel that the 3 door looks more 'sporty'!

I guess the choice is really down to your needs and what you like the look of best.

I like the 3 door best - I have no kids or elderly family I need to transport - and the plus side is its cheaper

Its subjective my dear simonpolly... since I like the 5 door version... and just because a brochure has a picture of it means something is better? hmmmm where is the logic in that?

If you did a poll of non gti owners and showed them the 3dr and the 5dr side on,i bet 80% would say the 3dr looks better, hence why its on the front cover, its a hot hatch not a taxi
