alternator belt on abf

my abf engine used to run air con and i have removed the air con pump so i ordered a new grooved belt for it and after going through 3 belts i finally got the one for the alternator with tensioner
i fitted new belt and its not right as it catches the back of the waterpump pulley
is there a different alternator bracket for non aircon engines or do i have something missing

It's a completely different set up, sorry - you'll need the alternative alternator mount, but I seem to recall the bracketry off a 2E without a/c will fit up, so that should make your scrapyard browsing less painful.

you need non aircon mk3 ltr bits normaly 8 valve.    waterpump pully,  alternator and alternator mounting bracket

while searching scrappers if i come across something like a mk3 1.8 will this have the same parts i need or is it just the 2.0 engine i can get the parts from

no you dont, all you need is non A/C waterpump pulley from any 1.8-2.0 8v or 16v MK3, and the correct non-A/C belt.  You just need to figure out which of the tensioner setups you have, the seperate tensioner type bracket had 2 revisions with different belt lengths.  This goes by year:
92-95 = 976mm
96-97 = 1038mm

Sorry, I should have clarified - you need the above if you want to run a ribbed belt, which will work better.

erm no, you still run a ribbed belt with the above.
the only difference between an ABF with and without A/C is the waterpump pulley and the length of the belt. oh and the fact there is an A/C compressor or not.

I must be dreaming the two different illustrations of the alternator bracketry in ETKA then, much like the two different bracketry set ups that I have about 300 meters from here and the two different ways of tensioning the belt that are used a/c vs non a/c, but then what do I know?

the brackets for the aircon setups i have safely filed in the bin do defantly look much diffrent from the non aircon setup on the car
