All sorted, got the ipod lead from the stealer for free and now working.

I've changed the RCD310 over for an RNS 510 I brought of ebay and I'm well chuffed. The change over took 10 mins and was a piece of cake.

I never got the bottle opener tho, was I supposed to get this?

Cant wait till tomorrow, first long drive to Cornwall and Im sure I need to give the engine a good run......not too fast tho

What did you have in place of the bottle-opener then?  It separates the two drinks in the front-seat drink holder.

(The holder is great for tubs of ice cream.  Trust me on this.)

hi all i was wondering whether the iPod adapter thing keeps the iPod in charge as well as the obvious task of playing the music, and presumably allow control of changing tracks and suchlike on the steering wheel buttons? I'm considering getting either an iPod Classic or iPod Nano, just as a convenient place to store the my own preferred tunes, and then just leaving the iPod in the car all the time. i presume it does but i thought i might ask as i have never owned or used anything iPod related before

Hi DDRFan,

Yes, the iPod adaptor will charge the iPod or Iphone when connected and you can use the buttons on the steering wheel to select your songs and all from the display...

Hope this helps..

can't remember which RCD unit you have, but with the RCD510 all you need is a 4gb SD card and bung all your music there.  sorted :)

also, how about just putting stuff onto a dongle and then plug that into the MDI?

both cheaper than an ipod and no less functionality AFAIK

Yes it helps thank you.   Now I sorta have to decide whether I really do want to get an iPod, just for the car... i suppose it's better than juggling all the CDs... the car before the one I got had a radio cassette! i still remember that and think how so much better having CDs are because you could easily just skip tracks.

thanks for that, i forgot about that option - i've read that full hard drives can even be connected via USB
so i could just get say a cheapish 32Gb USB mem stick for £50 like this:
http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/8850308/Play-com-32GB-USB-2-0-Flash-Drive-Ready-Boost-Enabled/Product.html
slam all the MP3s I want on there, and they will all play? it does actually sound more sensible
