DSG Gearbox Oil Change
« on: 13 October 2009, 08:13 »
A friend needs to get the oil changed for his DSG gearbox. He's been quoted 540GBP from VW. Any suggestions on getting it done cheaper?

My local specialist did it for £160 incl. VAT and that included new high temp brake fluid too!

My local VW garage (Blade, Glos) wanted £150 incl., so yours is taking the pi$$.

Yup, they are ripping you off.
Warner VW charge about £160 I think.

Just be VERY CAREFUL.  There are some VW stealers who are NOT changing the DSG fluid correctly - and this can have serious long-term issues.  You need to ask them to be very specific on how they change the fluid, and ask them to SHOW you the special tool.

Yeah I paid about £160 for the oil change, get a few quotes, that sounds ball park for cambelt change from main stealers, not dsg oil service (and filter..he said with uncertainty).

Let the fun begin........Red Gti, full colour coding, DSG, Xenons, Winter pack, Lux pack, Highline, Sat Nav, Sunroof, Leather, Milltek, ABT rear valance, Goodyear F1 Asymmetrics....pescaras :-)

Your absolutely right the 540 was for cambelt. he was quoted 189 for the oil change.

That's far too expensive for a cam belt change...

It's a big job on the MKV - the technicians hate them as they are unable to get the cam-cover on without damaging it in most cases.

I carried out the DSG change myself. Made up a filling rig which cost about £20. Bought 6 litres of oil (New fill is 7.5ltr, renew requires 5.5ltr, but can only buy oil in 1ltr bottles). Oil plus filter and O ring cost £78 incl VAT.

Currently have a voucher from supplying dealer F Cross of Grimsby for a £250 cambelt change.
Since it's a 7hr round trip I doubt I'll be taking them up on the offer.
Anyone want to make me an offer for it, then pm me.

Mines getting a new mechatronics unit on Monday under warranty, and the DSG fluid is changed as part of this.

Can you be more specific on what to ask them about how to change the DSG fluid  ?
