input shafts are bigger so u need a 16v clutch
tbh there is no gain in puttin a 16v box into an 8v

Would make for interesting driving though - I'd imagine a 16v box is geared for the engine revvin' between say 4 and 7 grand; really a 8v should be driven from 3500 to 5500.
You change gear frequently enough in and 8v without having a 1500 rpm power band that a 16v box would give you !! (well in theory)

if you get the gearbox code of your current box and compare it against the 2y box using this link you'll find there is no real difference

its a pointless exercise. u should only be lookin to change your box if its mangled!!

the different 2nd gear ratio in the 16v is to allow it to hit 60mph, because in those days it was all about 0-60 times!!
and 8v with the same gearing will not hit 60mph in 2nd as its unable to rev high enough

Looking back I should have got one, but given the money and time I had I'm still over the moon with what I got !!
If I wasn't planning an engine conversion I'd be on the hunt I must admit
I'm quite tempted just to get a 2.0 16v from a mk3 - ALOT cheaper than say a g60 - and 180 bhp should be easy from that ...

G60's are gettin long in the tooth nowadays - id stay away from any thoughts of doing a conversion with one
