dash swapping

remember hearing a while back about  a mk5 polo dash going into a mk2 golf. anybody else heard of this? also what are the first considerations when undertaking a dash swap. i take it its essential to own the haynes manual for the doner dash for the wiring diagrams?

u can download most of the wiring diagrams off the net if you need them. when I did the mk3 swap all the wires were same colours so I didn't have much head scratching to do :)

just rip out the mk2 dash and throw in the polo one. you'll soon see where needs cutting to make it fit. you'll probably need to weld in a support bar you should get from the polo. the whole dash screws to that. welding is the best option as long as you get it in the right place first time  ;)

you might need to make up some air ducts with fibreglass. best option is to get the matrix from the polo as linking the mk3's controls (knobs) to the mk2's matrix was impossible as the mk2 was sliders. The mk3's matrix bolted in relatively painlessly and works perfect now. might need to drill new holes in the firewall though. Don't cut the bulkhead out if things won't line up else the car will fall apart! Make up new peices from fibreglass to work round the problems.

and most importantly - take lots of pics!
hit me back if you want some help or advice on something :)
