Bad times, Drive Shaft bolts
« on: 07 October 2009, 16:43 »
Not really sure how this happened, but i rounded 3 of 6 Drive shaft bolts on the VR today.

I soaked them in WD and left for a while, 3 came out fine, the other 3 just spun and rounded.

I used a torx bit on a small breaker bar.

Going to try and use mulgrips on them tomo to remove them, if not...... Well.......

Any ideas?

They are not torx heads, they are splined.
Try using irwin extractors.

Also when you undo these bolts, always clean out the middle and bang the socket in, then you shouldn't be able to round them.

Im going to pick up a hex set from machine mart tomo, and i will bang them in for sure.

Going to give the rounded ones a go with the propper hex bit, as i only tried twice on each then left them so i can still have a pop at them.

That will do the job wont it?

TBH knocking on a slightly bigger spline tool will do the trick, then make sure to use the spline tool when fitting the new ones.
Golf MK3 1.8 auto and I didn't pay a grand for the "priveledge", auto windows all round and a AC. Oh and I've got a luggage net you pricks!

Does that make my willy look bigger?

Oh yeah it's called Helda or something....

I will use the bolts that on my mk3 8v at the moment probably to put into the VR box, as i am using my 8v driveshafts on the VR box, as i think its all the same :)

But i might just buy the splines, and give it a go. And if it fails get the extractors. As i have lots of other bits to buy, so if i can get away with not buying something. i will.

Don't be cutting corners though mate, it will only cost more time and money in the end.
