Incidentally, I sprayed those weird orange indicator bulbs silver to get rid of the egg-yolk look. Yes, I know, I'm anal...
So you now have silver indicators rather than orange  :undecided:

I was talking about on the old, stock lights. And they flash orange as per normal, they just look silver when off so you can't see them through the lens. It's an old trick I've been using for years  I might try the same thing with the new LED lights I fitted, but I'd really like to have an LED bulb in there first.

I have ordered some LED bulb's and load resistors to try so will let you know how I get on

Great, you have actually found some LED versions of VW's weird indicator bulbs? Can you post a link and/or pix? TIA :)

Yep the type is 7440 or WY21W for the indicators: -

Thanks, Steve. Did you get the resistors from the same place?

Nope already had some load resistors left from a previous project. eBay is awash with the 50w ali covered resistors

The ones you are going to use i hope are reasonable rated as there will be a bit of power needed to be dissapated by the resistors as heat even at the ~50% duty cycle of indicators.

OK, so I have ordered 4 LED indicator bulbs like wot you said (thought I may as well do the fronts at the same time)

I looked at eBay for the resistors: http://shop.ebay.co.uk/?_from=R40&_trksid=p3907.m38.l1313&_nkw=50w+resistors&_sacat=See-All-Categories, but there are dozens of them, all with slightly different references. Can you advise, please?

Also, I took a look at the rear LED blocks I just fitted to my car, but couldn't work out how to remove the indicator bulb holder. It doesn't seem to turn or pull out. How did you remove yours to get at the bulb? TIA :embarassed:

The LED indicator bulbs arrived today and, TBH, they're sh!te  First of all, they only start flashing after about 10 seconds, until then they're just on all the time. This may be because I didn't install any kind of load resistor, though... Perhaps worse, though, is the fact that they're way too dim compared to the standard lights and, IMO, probably illegal. I removed the one I tried immediately and put the stock bulb back.

If anyone has any suggestions and/or remmedies, then I'm all ears.
