Question from a MkVI user
« on: 06 October 2009, 17:50 »
Over on the MkVI board, we are being encouraged to come out of our cosy little world and take part in other boards, so here goes...

Does anyone here know how to get at the little lights in the door mirrors. They are sometimes referred to as 'puddle lights' and I think they are probably very similar on the MkV. Specifically, I am looking to replace the bulb with a white LED to match the interior LED lighting which I have just installed.

Thanks for any help

There was a 'how to' for changing the clear indicator lenses to smoked ones and it showed how to disassemble the wing mirrors but alas that how to no longer seems to be in existance.

You could try and have a look here

http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=54324.0

and find the appropriate manual for the mirrors.

Many thanks for your help. I managed to download the appropriate PDF file after a bit of messing about (you can only get at them via the homepage - in Russian - the link on here didn't work), now it's just a question of whether I dare apply enough leverage on the mirror glass to remove it without shattering it :undecided:

If you right click on the link and save target as (using IE not firefox or any other browser it should work?).

Those who have done the indicator lens swap reckon its easier than it looks but I would agree that levering glass in any situation is a nerve racking experience!

Good Luck.

Yes, I've got them and was thinking about repalcing the bulbs with LEDs, but read too many reports of them not working correctly.

Are plug and play LEDs available yet?

I got error messages when I tried putting LEDs in the front lights and the rear number plate, but all the interior lights were P&P (except, weirdly, the glovebox which required a new holder). I am assuming, perhaps wrongly, that the OBC is too lazy to monitor the puddle lights
