Im trying to decide between the GTD and GTi.

Apart from mpg and about £500, what advantages for you does the GTD have over the GTI?

...can someone explain to me the desire/trend to have black wheels? I can achieve the same effect with a little heavy braking and neglect.

The detailing police will be here any minute!
MKV GTI | Reflex Silver | 5-dr | Anthracite 17" | Manual | Highline MFD | Cruise | Revision 'D' DV | Dirty Pipes |

The GTD is like a blow up doll. The GTI is like a proper woman. Sure the doll might last longer, and the woman might have higher running costs, but which would you rather have?

That's it just the MPG and that's the only factor to consider.

The GTi i priced up is 26.5k ish, if the R comes in somewhere in the 28's i'll probably go for that.
Gone GTi | 3dr | Manual | Carbon Grey | Xenons | Monza 18's | RCD 510 |Rear Camera | Winter Pack.

If you've added about £4k of options to the GTI, then you'll probably have a big list to add onto the £28.5k (hopefully!) of the Golf R - which will take it to £32-33k

On another note... I test drove a GTD for about 3 hours at the weekend and was very surprised by it!  It was quiet, quick and very nice to drive.  If I did more miles I'd certainly consider one, but currently I barely do 7k a year.  The GTD was torquier, but the GTI was quicker - although I wouldn't say by much!  I just prefer getting the noise and feeling of thrashing a petrol car... which you can't really do with diesel.
Golf R... 3 door, DSG, Leather, Reflex Silver, Black 19" Talladega Wheels, ACC, Parking Sensors, RNS510 with Dynaudio, Reverse Camera, Luxury Pack, Cruise Control & Fiscon Bluetooth.

Yes, I was impressed by it too. As a high mileage company car it would be the one to go for. For fun though, it has to be the GTI.

Hmmm... those pictures do nothing for Rising Blue - it looks much better in the flesh, or even in the Roc R v Golf R race video!
It was bound to come sooner or later as its in my brochure as a choosable colour.

It makes the decision a little harder in terms of colours as I think it will be stunning... but I'm more likely to take something that will 'blend in' and not stand out.
