Standard front brakes
« on: 04 October 2009, 11:44 »
"IF" I was to return my brakes back to standard (as they're whats causing me a whole lot of grief at the moment) what parts would I need?
I say this because I think it might be cheaper then getting a garage to order them in aswell as fitting.

So I'd need;

Discs

Pads

Calipers

...

Thanks, Jack

The garage up the road think they're tt brakes. They're the reason i can fit my 2 front wheels (offset 35)

You maybe having the same problem i have.

Measure your disc, is it 288mm? I had to put 10mm spacers on (probably could have gotten 5mm spacers, but as i was given the 10mm spacers with my wheels, i used them) and there fine now. The rear wheels go on fine without spacers. My spokes on my Azev A rims were touching the caliper hense why it needed spacers

You've probably got the bigger brakes like me on my 8v.
Black 8v GTI............. Whats a Waffle Valve?

Later cars were 288mm set up, and I had no issues with et35 fitting over them.

Yes I've been following what's been going on with your wheels as it's near enough the same problem.
I.e the rear wheels fit fine whereas the front calipers are catching.
But I've been looking into returning them to standard as the disks and pads are worn out anyway?

Right, booked the car into a garage to have a proper look at the brakes.

Turns out they're completely standard apart from performance disks and pads. So I don't understand how my alloys of ET35 won't fit?

So now I've ordered some hubcentric (sp) spacers with longer wheel bolts.

Hmm...

I would guess your alloys might not be et35.
