Called my dealer today for a weekly update from the ordering system, he was on holiday this week, so I had to call VW customer services.  Bad news, in fact terrible news!  I dont have a build week anymore!  I've gone back to "Factory Ordered" - Anyone else getting similar?  I think its time for a strongly worded letter to head of VW UK Sales.

Spooner, where did you order yours from? I was going to Crawley VW this weekend to speak with them about delivery dates.

I don't want to add fuel to a fire here, but am just adding what I have read, and of course I have a GTi on order too so am interested but.......

I've also read that they are building cars in batches based on spec? meaning that depending on what options you have gone for means you may have a less popular (in terms of how many people have also orderded that spec) car, so will be delayed until a few more have the same spec.

Does this sound right, surely a modern manufacturing plant such as VW couldn't be doing this could they, or is it due to the market still being slow?

I got the same bull last week when I spoke to VW, had to give them total grief to get something out of them, I think they are now being told not to say anything about a cars build week, unless its confirmed for production that is

I've sacked talking to the dealer as they know fookall anyway

^This does not sound good. Looks like they have been told to keep quiet. I guess they expect more to cancel that way and so reduce the waiting time. Good tactic

I ordered mine from Caffyns by Haywards Heath train station.  One of the titbits that he gave me the other week was that a guy ordered a GTD on the same day as me, he also has the same trouble with a fluctuating build date!  I was also told that they couldnt submit any more orders for Golfs this year!

All car makers are increasingly influenced by declining markets, VW wants to approach the global sales decline with the novel notion of cutting production before cars start sitting on dealer lots for months on end. Makes perfect sense.

Ah right, i live in HH. I didn't get on with one of the sales guys there, almost got into a row. So took mine and my Mrs's business to Crawley. Their loss on my 26k and her 15k!

Just out of interest, who you dealing with down there?

Well I'll send you a PM with his name, I dont think its fair to put his name out on Google for the world to see, but to be fair he's been great!  I live in Hove, and a couple of years ago I wanted to get a mk5 ed30 on finance from Advent VW in Portslade.  I had a nightmare with them, and so did my mum when she bought a Lupo from there a couple of years before that, so went to HH instead.  Also, the feedback on the VW site gave Hove and Eastbourne like 96% and HH 100%.
