I also feel your pain ! I've just received confirmation that mine is now due to be built in week 2 ... Have been told to expect a call from VW in the next couple of days re compensation although despite much hollow talk from them, I'm not overly optimistic.. I actually hope it slips by a couple of weeks now so it gets the new plates.
I know exactly what you meen. I think if mine slips further and they offer compensation i think what i will ask for is they pay the extra vat and register it 1st March.
For me myself i feel its pointless to get it in the middle of winter with the bad conditions/roads so i will not mind the extra wait.
Me too
Mid August with a BW48 now BW02.

The same thing just happened to me too, ordered August 10th with BW48 (unconfirmed), now moved to BW02 and still unconfirmed!!

I asked about compensation, told that VW will only consider it 20 weeks post order date, and then it's usually in the form of a loan car, probably so they can take my px off me while its still worth something.  Has anyone been offered some worthwhile for having to wait so long?

Great forum by the way, I've been lurking around for a while now, wished my first post could have actually been about GTi ownership.

I've just had a chat with the broker I ordered via, and he seemed to think I'd be dead chuffed if vw might knock off the vat.....or in other words, give me the car i ordered at the price i actually agreed to pay, but just a few months late

My status is currently *cancelling & buying a mk5 gti/r32 in the morning* (this may change once i've slept on it, but I'm pretty fed up with this shower right now). When i started this thread, I just wanted to gauge what was happening to others, here we are pages later, and sadly it seems vw have shafted most of us.
Cancelled Order
Mk5 R32 instead.....and change too:)

The funny thing is i was just this minute reading about the VAT and what car firms were doing about it from page 18 of autoexpress.
If only VW was as good as Vauxhall and Ford  with there offer  as those two say anyone buying this year will pay 2009 vat no matter when there vehicle is delivered.
So unlike VW they have not ruled out letting there customers wait to register it for 1st march new reg due to there slow production!.

If the car arrives early Feb I've asked the dealer if I can hold out for the 2010 plate and I will not pay extra VAT, they agreed.
Just going to take the car as soon as it arrives, when ever that is
I'm certainly going to be writing to VW direct and complaining

Maybe those who have cars on order, me included should put a group letter together asking VW if they would follow suit with Ford and the others about the 2.5% extra in VAT?

Must be worth a try at least?

It's predicted that on the 1st January 2010 VAT is going to increase to from 15% to 17.5% . Volkswagen have created an offer to help minimise the impact of this increase on the on the final price you'll pay for your vehicle when it is delivered.
If you order a new Volkswagen before the 30th November 2009 and take delivery before the 1st January and 28th February 2010, we will give you a 2.5% discount on the pre VAT basic recommended retail price or the vehicle including factory fitted options.
Terms and conditions:
This offer applies to vehicles ordered between the 29th October and the 30th November 2009 and delivered and registered to private retail customers between 1st January and 28th February 2010. At participating retailers only. This offer is not a VAT ‘Price Protection’ offer. The 2.5 per cent discount is on the pre VAT basic retail price of the vehicle plus any factory fit options. This is available on Retail sales only (including scrappage offers). All models are eligible. Volkswagen UK reserves the right to change/withdraw this offer as required.

So basically the terms and condition meen
1) exclude us August orders.
2) only at participating retailers
3) It i think also excludes anyone thats ordered through a broker(fleet sales) thats not retail.
4) It excludes anyone that thinks because of the hassle and delay vw has caused us with delays in production that we should be allowed to at least wait and get the new plate as compensation rather than last of the old one.

So basically because VW decided to move the production about at the factory due to new engines, models and markets we get screwed.
