I've just been into the dealers to get an update on my order on 15th August because the several calls I've had from their support staff haven't told me anything except the car is in production.

The salesman (who to his credit has been a bit of a star) looked into it for me. It was originally scheduled for week 38 but this slipped a couple of weeks because I have requested a DAB radio. Then, nothing.. the order seems to have disappeared !! The only thing which is showing up is the "in production" comment !

He's going to phone up VW on Monday and get back to me. I made noises about cancelling the order especially when he made reference to the VAT increase in January. He said we can come to some agreement  over that and he made the usual salesman comment about he's been around the block a few times and can call a few people etc..

So 11 weeks gone and still in limbo.. grrrrrr !!

If you check out the VW website, they have a section about VAT where VW dealers should cover the cost of the VAT rise depending on when you ordered the car.

If you order a new Volkswagen before the 30th November 2009 and take delivery before the 1st January and 28th February 2010, we will give you a 2.5% discount on the pre VAT basic recommended retail price or the vehicle including factory fitted options.

It does indicate though that dealers have a precedent that they can follow here and gives you scope for haggling.

Funnily enough I was just comparing the final cost of my car when i bought it to the cost now.  I had forgotten that there has been something like a 3-4% price rise around Sept time.
