I am new here - ordered my GTI Mk VI via leasing company (company car) August 26th. Build date of next week with Week 45 changes (week 45 is next week I believe) and expecting delivery end Nov. Here's hoping.

I get the impression that delivery lead times are all down to individual dealer allocation slots from VW. I phoned 3 dealers to ask about lead times and their answers were 3 months, 5 months and 6 months! A bit of a lottery. I have even heard of a situation where a dealer has sold their demonstrator without having a replacement at list +.

Blimey - I thought that type of activity was reserved for McLaren's and Italian exotica!

The other thing I heard was it all depends on what options are on your car. I was told options like Dynaudio, leather, winter pack etc are far easier to configure than xenons, dab, cruise control and sunroofs. Any views?

It appears that dealers are advising people who have added options such as xenons and sunroof that there will be a longer wait for their cars than those who have not added these items.  To me this seems to be a nonsense as  I ordered my car May 23rd with among other things, xenons and sunroof specced and I collected the car July 29th so for all you waiting and being given long build dates go give your dealers some agro, but whenever you get your new GTI you are so going to love your choice.

Rolfe - you did very well, ordered ata  time wen business was a lot less secure and by the sounds of it you grabbed a car the dealer already had coming through the system, albeit perhaps in its early stages.

Dealers now have virtually no allocations for the expected 12-14week lead times. Smaller dealers might only have 1 GTI slot a month, so it doesn't take long to see their delivery times becoming silly. Some dealers won';t let on they have no allocation when you order, they want their commission after all.

What a complete load of bull. Just got off the phone to the lying toss-pots @ customer care and now being told sort of confirmed wk 49 but if any slight delay then I won't get the car until Jan because of the 2 wk december factory shut down.

I was originally given a build wk of 44 (unc) then 47 (conf) then 48 and now 49. Apparently there is no real confirmation until the car actually goes into production.

Had I known all this back in Aug then there is no way I would have ordered one.

Possibly, though that wasn't the impression I had at the time.  He showed me about half a dozen cars on the system already built, one of which was the colour I wanted, but it was just basic with no extras.  I said I'd rather wait a bit to get exactly what I wanted, as my Peugeot still had a long MOT and was running well.  He said OK, it would have to be a factory order, and would be about three months, maybe a bit sooner.

The previous dealer I'd gone to also said three months (without the "maybe a bit sooner).  I thought that was standard.  I went with the second dealer because of the better discount.

Rolfe.

Ladies/Gents

It's easy for me to say this I know but...

You will enjoy your car soooo much more if it's exactly the spec you want. Yes, the wait is tough (I waited nearly 3 months), but you get exactly what you want and it is built especially for you.

If it helps do the awesome Wolfsburg factory tour near build week to 'see the birth'.

'Tailored' is better than 'off the shelf'.
The anticipation will make you love this fantastic car even more.
