ordered Aug 1st, recently given provissional build week 49. Just recieved lettler from "friendly" Sales manager at my stealers- Anticipated Delivery Date Feb/March 2010.

Oh dear...................

I would ring a few dealers and ask what their delivery time would be if you placed an order today.  Whilst VW are certainly controlling supply (probably keeping the factory on shorter working hours until they know there is a real upturn in the markets), some dealers have a lot more allocation than others. If you get the same sort of answer at other dealers at least you know you're not being messed baout by the current dealership.

Order my car 5/7/09. Told the car was shipped 2 weeks ago. Rung stealers today to find out why no news. The girl on the phone said the car sales who dealt with me had gone on holiday but the sale 'MANAGER' will ring me to update me. Guess what, no call whatsoever!  No good if you are trying to market a golf gti as a premium brand!

^  Good grief!  I confirmed my order on 8th July (visited dealer and got quote on the evening of 7th July) and I've been driving the car for six weeks!

And I think I just about won the "who got the best discount" sweep, so it wasn't as if I was paying full price.  And I had a sunroof and ACC as well.

I can't understand why it's so variable.

I think Rolfe, myself and a few others ordered soon after the launch in May/June, dealers didn't know how strong the demand would be at the time so discounts were available.
They now know demand is high as most of their order books are full well into next year. Hence few discounts and long lead times.

I didn't even realise the car was so new when I decided to buy it.  A friend at work persuaded me that I ought to feed my Peugeot to the scrappage scheme and get a new car before winter - this was late June.  I was concerned the scrappage scheme might finish by September/October and decided to get moving.

I was initially attracted to the Focus ST, but when I widened my search the Golf just leaped out as being the right car.  I didn't realise it was brand new till I joined this forum.  Took me a few days to reconcile myself to the price, get ignored by a Ford dealer, get a test drive of the GTi, and find a VW dealer offering a decent discount.

I would have thought the scrappage scheme might be running out of steam by now, but demand does seem to be brisk.  Maybe it's all the good reviews and awards.  It really is a great car, I'm thrilled to bits.

ordered white one august 13th. was told i'd have it by mid sept. no such luck. was then repeatedly assured that i would be contacted every tuesday to update its progress. no once was i called. i've visited the dealers every saturday since placing my order seing as the sales person involved could'nt be bothered to phone me. the latest excuse on sat 24th oct was that the car had definatley been built was about to be shipped out then was recalled cos of a fault on the park assist. it would now be 2nd week in nov. yeah right! since, i discovered this forum and was given advice to phone cus service with com number.... yes you guessed it,my car was build week 49 unconfirmed. what is it with these sales people. apart from not nowing much about the product, the seem to be compulsive liars! i.ve been trying to get hold of the sales mananager since but no return call. this coming sat(31st) i.m going down to the dealers and i,m gonna let rip!!! watch this space!

Devito it's been previously posted that some VW dealers just don't seem to think that they should offer any sort of 'customer service'.

MY view regardless if I'm spending a few quid on something from Maplin's for 25K gee's on a GTi then I should be entitled to at least the basics!

I got my car via an internet broker which meant that I dealt with the fleet side of a VW dealer. What a refreshing change. Totally down to earth, he actually did what I asked and no hard sell on anything at all. I had to ask him about the service pack, autoshine etc!

On top of that I got an instant discount wihtout having to haggle and a build week straight that didn't move (car actually came early!).

I would recommend using a broker again.

Mk6 Golf GTI 5dr, DBP, Monza Shadow, Xenons, ACC, RCD510, Park Assist, Camera, Lux pack.... and now bluetooth.... and now DSG!

+1

My car was sourced through fleet also. Excellent customer service for a change, and did exactly what they said when they said.
