I've got an 05 Axx, it does sound a bit tappity on idle. It would cool if someone were to list all the actual parts that were changed and the approximate costs. I don't find it too bad, I've come to understand it as a characteristic of the engine, however if there is a hard and proven fix out there a public forum would be the perfect place for this info.

Is it possible you or Lucas can compile it Gene?

If you find the orginal thread for this which is about 14 pages long & go to the last but one page you can see the parts that need to be changed a couple being the cam chain & tensioner etc,but be warned total cost of parts comes to around £400.00 !!!!!!.

The problem part is the cam adjuster which is attached to the exhaust cam.  If you order the adjuster from VW they will sell you a 'repair kit' which consists of a new adjuster, the housing and a new gasket.
The cost is £260 ish.  They change the cam chain and tensioner I am guessing, because of their reletive cheapness plus the desire to fit all new components when changing the adjuster.

£400 ish to solve a problem that isn't a problem (for me).... I think not.

If I wanted to waste money on my fantastic car there are heaps better ways to do it than that....

The adjuster doesn't just make your engine nice and quiet.  Its job is to change the cam timing.
Mine is being changed in the next month or so.  I have just changed the control valve because the electrical connector was damaged (Car runs smoother, but noise still present) Next I will change the adjuster, chain and tensioner. Before it is changed, I will have it on the RR and then again after to see if it affects performance and/or emmisions as well.

Mine is going in on wednesday to have it fixed.  :smiley:.........just dropped mine off & after a bit of a battle with the warranty company ............there paying.  :laugh: :smiley: .

Well just got back from the garage & to say i'm over the moon is an understatment :cool:  :evil:.The car now sounds as it should with no rattle & just the burble from the Milltek.The mechanic who did it said the chain was so slack that you could lift it off the cam drive wheels !!!!!!!!!!.Had mine done under a warranty i took out with the car but the guy who did the repair replaced the chain & the tensioner & gaskets etc.
Well worth it just for the sound alone. :smiley: :wink:.

Would have been interesting to hear a sound clip

Mine sounds like a diesel at start up but i cant hear aything once im on the move.
