Revo remap quote: £499+VAT for 275hp & 314Nm
« on: 10 September 2009, 15:59 »
The nearest Revo dealer to me here in France is in... Dover, Kent (www.ashfordmotorsport.com)

They have quoted me £499 + VAT and 'promised' 275hp & 314Nm. This seems consistent with what Revo themselves are saying on their website, so what do we think? Should I go for it, or is it better to put a few more kilomètres on the old horloge first? The general concensus here seems to be that Revo are the best, but any feedback - particularly if anyone has any experience of Ashford MotorSport - would be most welcome.

TIA :)

Sounds good but I would personally want to put a few more miles on the car.  Something to think about next year tho

Frog, I can't comment on Ashford Motorsport, but the good thing about REVO is they will personally provide backup, technical support, and even offer free updates - so weather individual dealers are crap or not, shouldn't really be an issue.

But I would earnestly wait until you have at least 5k miles on it, ideally wait until 10k miles - because most VAG engines arn't truely run in until around the 10k mark.

I would also strongly recommend a Revo Select Plus switch - this allows the user to create up to 3 customised user 'maps' (they arn't actually true maps, they just alter the thresholds of the existing map on the ECU).  It also allows you to set it back to 'stock' mode (not the actual map as originally installed by Wolfsburgs finest, but simply Revos own interpretation which should perform in a virtually identical manner to the OEM map), and finally allows an 'anti-theft' mode (completely disables the throttle pedal - so the engine can be started, but just won't rev above tickover).

This SPS is usually an extra £150 - but if you can wait for one of the VAG shows, such as GTI International, not only do Revo offer a very worthwhile discount on the remap, but they also throw in the SPS for a massively discounted price.  I don't know if Revo are going to Audi Driver International at Castle Coombe on 10th October - but fire them an e-mail and see what they say.

Great tips there. Merci beaucoup :) It will also give me an excuse to come over to next summer's GTI International and bore everyone rigid with my Interlagos wheels

Hmmmm after much thought (an wheels spin ) i think I may well hold on until about 5k miles also. Not only that but it should get me through the winter months also.

Nice offer, but I'll also be waiting after the smile fades from my face and once I put some miles on her

I had mine done at only just over 1000 miles and been very happy but TT seems to know onions.

I think the deal at GTI international was about 30% off so very worthwhile if you're going to clock up some miles beforehand.

Do they actually do the upgrades there and then or simply take deposits?

I'm not trying to say there is any black and white 'right or wrong' time to remap.  But I do think it is very important to correctly run in an engine.

And I also reckon that by leaving it for 5 or 10k miles - then you sort of get a double bonus - you get the 'new car' pleasure - and then when you get it remaped later, you get the same feeling all over again.  But if you remap straight away, you miss the second hit.

Yup, at this years Inters, I had three remaps and two SPSs for around a grand, when the retail price would have been around £1700.

At GTI International?  They do them there and then.  Chat to them in their gazebo/marquee, agree what you want, trot back to your car, drive it round the back of their stall, and they'll plug in their lappy straight away, and less than half an our later - all done!  :nerd:

Hurdy swapped his Cust0m C0de map for a Revo, and seemed highly impressed with it - and his strip times proved it too!  :smug:
