DIY Resistor fix for Heater/Blow/Fan

I know the fan/blower only working on speed #3 is a common fault.
Seeing as a replacement resistor costs over 20 quid, ive heard its possible to just solder a new part onto the resistor.
Has anyone tried this? If so what is the part?

IIRC The resistor(s) are seriously expensive anyway.

Take the blown one down to Maplin to match up the OHM rating, then just solder in it yourself.

Piece of cake.

Phuck the ohm rateing. Power disaption rateing is FAR more inporteant in this kind of appliction.
the resistor you replace it with needs to be able to dispapte adiquate power so it dosent melt.
getting the value of the reistor is going to be optimal but a littel pissy one will just burn

Found this link, thought i'd share.

They seem to discuss replacing the thermal fuse rather than a thermal resistor though.
