Xennon's and coming home lighting function
« on: 07 September 2009, 22:57 »
I have the xennons on my mk6 GTI but for some reason when you park up at night the lights switch off when you pull the keys out of the ignition. I have double cheked through the computer and coming home lights are switched on for a 10 second delay and it does not work.

Has anyone noticed this or anyone with xennons have it working okay?

When i unlock the car at night they automatically come on before i get into the car so why it does not work for locking i do not know.

Are you not meant to flash them before switching off.
I'm sure I've read this somewhere as it is different from the MkV

Silly question but is it dark when you get home?  Just because on the Mk5 if the lights are on because you were driving a bit quick or because the wipers were on constantly then they switch off as soon as you take the key out, they only stay on for a bit if its actually dark.  Sometimes if its twilight mine switch off as soon as you take they key out but other times when its proper dark they stay on for a bit...

Mk6 may of course be different...

Ha ha!! I was just about to post a similar question. Although I dont have the xenons my home coming lights dont seem to work?? :undecided:

I increased the time to 20sec using the mfd and it doesnt work. It is dark (of course ) and the lights are set to the auto function. Any help would be appreciated

You need to flash the lights before leaving the car for the coming home lights to work.  I was baffled with this one as I was expecting it to work the same as my old mk5

Yeah its pitch dark as we dont have street lights or anything where i live. I will give the flash a go tonight and see if it works. Maybe VW have redesigned this so as to save 6 months of going to the supermarket in winter and

"you've left your lights on!"
