Got any mates with same car? If so swap the relays.
If its not that then you need to get it checked on a vagcom.

Have you got an aftermarket alarm/immobiliser?

not that i know of no!
but it could be something to do with the alarm and immobiliser
as i know it was an extra when the car was brand new

Pull out king lead and rest it on the cam cover with screw in trode so it can arc across gap and turn car over, you need to see a spark
