If you need a new mirror casing then it might be worth getting it painted by one of these smart repair places rather than the $tealers bodyshop - probably cheaper!

A friend of mine had the mirror knocked off his Audi A6, total bill from the Audi $tealer was about £360 (supply/fit/paint). Gulp.

My dad had the mirrors stolen (!!) off his Audi S5 and got a bill of nearly £900 from the Audi dealer!!

Sadly, that is very common - even more common on the earlier Audi S cars which had the solid alloy door mirrors!

Sorry for late reply - thanks for the offerings! I decided to just get it all from the dealer including the new casing painted (its grey by the way :) ) - it wasnt a bad price

TT (or anyone) - any link or tips how to replace the indicator would be most helpful

Look at the top of the Mk5 section - there is a sub-forum for 'maintenance + info' - there is thread titled 'free workshop manuals'

I had a ding on my wing mirror recently and a replacement painted shell was £76 from dealer. Already painted in Black Magic Pearlescent. It was a stock part, which is quite lucky.

TT - thanks had a look there, but the relevant external mirror link seems to be dead :(

Can anyone offer some advice/instructions on removing the old indicator and replacing it? It doesn't look as straight forward as I'd hoped from first inspection!

Many thanks

Done.

All fitted under 30 mins, fairly easy job, although probably made a lot easier that the clips had broken on the mirror casing because of the smash, although because of the lack of a long torx screwdriver I had to remove the mirror motor to get at the indicator housing screws.

Thanks for advice, and thanks to TT and his guides, top drawer!
