stealers
« on: 24 August 2009, 18:34 »
Not sure if any of you have experienced this but I had a service @ 22k miles and since then every month without fail the service light has been coming back on.  Each time it has been taken back to the dealer and reset, today was the third time I have taken it back and this time they reset the whole systyem (current milegae 28k, next service due @ 33k), apparently if it comes back on again I need a new dash panel which will knock me back £359!  Any thoughts on this??

There was a known and documented issue regarding early Mk5s - whereby the service reminder would go t!ts up.  But I can't remember if it was just a flash update, or a complete new dash pod.  Sorry I can't be more specific.

If it's a known and documented issue vw just might pick up the parts bill, leaving you with the labour.... Long shot but worth a try ... Ya just never know.

Can you make the service reminder go out if you reset it manually or can it only be solved by the dealer?

For the sake of £360 (assuming that is the only issue) I would be happy to reset it manually each time, as it only takes a few seconds. (check the forum for instructions on this).

As TT says, might be worth going down the route of speaking to VW warranty/technical to see if there was a software update.

As it would happen, I just had a new dash pod fitted (thankfully under warranty). Different issue though, the highline display had pixel loss.

it can be reset manually but over the last 3 months it kept coming back on, i'm hoping this time it will stay off as they have reset the whole system.  they checked for updates today but nothing needed doing, so i will have to wait and see if it comes on again next month!
