damn...just sprung a leak..(help needed)
« on: 24 August 2009, 16:13 »
I was just driving home and the temperature light started flashing but my
temperature gauge is still on halfway..?

Its a 1996 mk3 cabrio with a 1.8 AAM engine...

i have sprung a small leak from the middle of the metal water pipe on the right hand
side of the engine(the pipe that bends around the front of the block)

what is the exact name for these and are they easy to replace?
is the metal bit called a water pipe?

are they costly?

thanks..

got the new metal water pipe today and fitted it..filled it up but the fan still does
not seem to be working...

ive also flushed it out with the hose pipe

the engine seems very hot but the temp gauge never goes above halfway?

the top and bottom hoses on the radiator are both very hot so will it defo be the
switch on the radiator that needs replacing before i go and buy one..?

If i bridge the points the fan does spin!!

is there anything else that may need replacing?

 :undecided:

My fan doesnt come on till the gauge is just past half way and that only happens in traffic on hot days.

if you're still having trouble with your fan, chances are it'll be the fan switch! cheap cheap and damn easy :)
