bad news( car accident)

Hey guys, on saturday my lovely mk3 got smashed in from the rear. The bloke said he couldn't brake in time! I was ok which is the main thing I suppose. anyways the damage seemed not to bad, bumper, maybe boot. However it know appears the body has moved since the door or boot will not close! Pretty gutted considering I had alloys, coilovers, lights, exhaust, interior etc spent on it. The car even starts first time. So now the car looks like a write off and the insurance want to collect the car. Just wondered would it be possible to buy the car from the insurance as I will be losing alot of money. I can take bits off but its mainly the suspention I wanted. Maybe if I explain I want the parts for another mk3.

Any advice or if anyones had the same kind of problem, would be a help. especially since the insurance company keeping me in the dark.

You should be able to buy it back, one thing is are all the mods declared.

Hey that sucks.

Wha you wanna do is not except their first offer of money. They will always go in low. Look into adverts for similar spec, age and mileage cars and copy the ads. Send them copies pointing out how much it will cost to properly replace your car. Second ask for salvage retention. They will deduct the scrap value of the car from your payout but you get to keep the car, swap any bits onto your new one then ebay your old one.

All thi sis of course if you declared your mods, if not you may be a bit stuck.

yeah they are declared, ones that arn't have been taken off today.

to be honest the car looks pretty good, considering the bloke hit me at like 40mph. Think i'l get a mk3, good solid car!

I feel for you mate. It's not nice is it. But as said, make sure you refuse the first offer and ensure that you do some digging for some good adverts and pull out your service history etc to prove the condition. Then ask for a higher sum. They will either give you that or somewhere in between.

Then see if you can get a low quote for the scrap value of the car, and try and get the lowest salvage value deducted from the final payment.

If you have the original parts instead of the declared mods, then can always swap them over today.

Dont let em take the car it will be difficult to strip the car at the yard if not impossible, also it will be on their terms and you will get rogered.
This has happened to me twice even though i specificaly asked for recovery to my Dads garage, i have lost loads of MK2 goodies including my polished P slots and mint early and rainbow interiors + digi dash to the VW Vultures that circle these places before i could get up there the next day

Sorry to hear about the accident Chloe, good to hear you didn't get hurt at 40mph though, as you said the MK3 is solid

As said, the service history may help you get back a bit more for the car, and any reciepts for the declared mod's.

Good luck with the claim, hope it doesnt drag on for too long.  Stereo's are usually easy enough to pull out if you havn't declared it.

Nice and easy thing to fit in your you new car, I can't drive anywhere without switching my stereo on!
