As far as i know all you have to do is re-program all the keys to the ECU, nothing else needs programming.
Is that correct Wayne?

If not, C2 motorsport will de-imobilise the ECU for about £100. So i dont matter what key you used, or anything.

It's vag-tacho thats is required to code key's etc..not vag-com!

and regarding the plug and play bit...as long as the ecu matches the o.e part number (see list below) then all that needs sorting is the immobiliser

91-94 Bosch KE Motronic: 0 261 000 852/3::8A0907404 (non immobiliser)

I believe that is correct as I looked at having it done when I changed the steering column but managed to swap the chip over.

Am I thinking of the later key's only? (I know my old mk3 one's were done by the local key cutter! and my passat wont/cant be coded on vag-com)

Vag-com should be able to code all cars. I didn't think vag-tacho could do it, just mileage correction, but to be honest i've never used it.
What year is your passat? i can recode my Audi A8, and thats a 1998.
The older cars have a different procedure for programming than the newer ones.
