power troubles

i have a 1200 watt sub with an 800 watt amp powering it which is great until i leave the car for a few days cos the battery will be dead.there anyway of wiring up a switch for the power cable from the battery instead of me unplugging the fuse all the time.
p.s battery is ok and alternator putting bout 13.8volts in with all lights on

Waht?

The amp should only be on when the stereo is on, I'e powered via the HU's Remote cable.

Thats not possible. You must have something else going on mate. Probably a light shorting out or something.

starting to think maybe fault with the amp cos it did the same in my old car but i put it down to using wrong gauge of wiring.
gonna get my multi meter out and see how much it is drawing.definatly amp drawing power cos no problems when it is unplugged.
dont really want to buy new amp at the mo which is why i was wondering if there is anyway of wiring a switch to it

checked with multi meter with amp plugged in no reading without it no reading wtf?
must of checked instructions for multi meter 20 times

So just to clarify, yoo have the multi meter set to Amps, then you should have the positive end of the meter attached to the power cable, the then ground end of meter connected to the amplifer right?

yeah set to amps but i had battery positive disconnected with meter on positive pole on battery and positive cable{wot the book says anyway}

you sure you got it wire to the remote on your head unit ? test that aswell make sure its not staying live

A quick way to properly check if the remote cable is working correctly is to see if there is voltage across it. Easy :)

Well thats one way of doing it but i'd personally check if its pulling amps after the fuse right on the amplifier.
