car stalling

can someone tell me why my car drops revs :o then stalls when started or when you dip the clutch ??? but runs ok after about 2 mins running? ? ;D the beast is a 2.0 gti 8v mk3 1996 runs at 800revs on tick over

dropping the clutch? that mean your in gear or you mean dropping it to engage a gear?

I had the same problem with a 1.6 mk3 I used to have, when you approach a junction or just put the clutch down the revs would drop and usually catch themselves again (if engine was warm), however when cold it would stall.
I spent loads trying to get it sorted, had a new map sensor, new ECU, but still didn't solve the problem.
Once I bought my 8v GTI, after about a month the same thing started happening, not as bad, my mate (an ex VW technician) cleaned the inside of the throttle body - Never happened since!

i would do a search on this as it has definitely come up a few times before. i had/have this problem too.. the garage where i take it said it is quite common amongst other things. he cleaned out the butterfly thingamajiggy in the fuel line??? seem to sort it for 6 months or so.
