battery problems

is my battery coming to the end of its life, as it started first time this morning then was completley flat a couple of hours later, its done it a couple of times lately, i even took it for a motorway blast to put some charge in it last night but still went flat

You need to get the alternator checked out first to see if its charging the battery properky.

the alternator was new last year, well a recon anyway from gsf

Unusual for it to start in the morning and then go flat while driving if charging ok.

Do a search on here.

Check the regulator in the alternator.

with engine running put a multimeter across the battery terminals set to 20v dc you should see around 14v on meter with no ancillaries running

if your getting 14v battery is fooked  :wink:

did that yesterday getting a reading of 14.1v with the engine running, i bought one of them portable jump starters the other day as i didnt want to spend the same money on a new battery only for it to go flat with in a couple of days of buying it

As I said check the regulator. It will still charge the battery when the engine is running, but it will not disconnect when the engine is stopped, and thus will keep pulling a charge from the battery until it is empty.

i'll check that next, i also put a multimeter across the the fuses and there was a 12v at the radiator fan, brake lights, radio/cigarette lighter etc and the emergency light (hazards) fuses, shud there be 12v at them plus how do i check if the regulator is at fault

i had a shop do a jump test on my battery and turns out it was knackered so bought another
