£85!!, what did they do to it?? stand back and admire it FFS!!.

I think you might have missed the point - I don't think he went 3 years or 30k miles since his last serv.  I think what he is actually saying is that it is the 3rd service (done every year) and he is now at 30k miles.  So this makes him on T&D, and would therefore just be the 'oil change service' - which is just four items.

The Longlife oil is nearly £50 on its own!!, they must of used crap oil to get price to that.

Nah, trade price for bulk supplies of LL3 oils are around £3 per litre.  Stealer mark-up should mean that 'retail price' of bulk oil is prolly £6.50 to £7 per litre - so for the GTI sump, oil should be around £35.

Brake fluid service is £62 on its own.

I think you may be getting slightly shafted darn sarf!   VW usually state £45 to £49.95 for BFC.

Expect to Pay around £175-£225 (not including brake fluid change) for 3rd year service.

Nope, the third is identical to the year one 10k mile serv - so around the 100 notes all in.

4th year is the biggy

Yup, agreed. :afro:

I think this is the biggest response to a post I've had on here, quite a debate going on

It was Advantage VW in Stirling that done the service for me. (Closest one to me)

I think that the oil used was Quantum and VW502 (only had a quick look)

Two Three major fcuk ups.  Firstly, VW502.00 is NOT certified for FSI engines, 2nd-ly, VW502.00 is NO LONGER certified for use in official VAG workshops (and has been obsolete since December 2008).  Finally, Quantum oils are NOT authorised for use by official franchised workshops.  Quantum oils are ONLY certified for use by 'independent motor trade', and official franchised dealers MUST ONLY use oils supplied from premier oil companies (such as Castrol, Fuchs, Motul, Shell, etc).

Report the shady barstewards to Volkswagen Customer Services, and cc the leter to Volkswagen AG at Wolfsburg.

I went into my dealer about a week before my service was due to get a litre of oil as it needed topping up.  My dealer used to supply Quantum gold whenever I went in for oil.  The guy went round the back and came out with a 5L tub.  Thinking he had misheard me I said it was only a litre I was looking for.  His reply was that I could have the 5L for free as they were no longer allowed to sell Quantum as it had been superseeded.

Sure enough on the receipt for the service it showed that they had used Mobil 0W/30.  I know TT was maintaining some time ago that Mobil wasn't properly accredited to the VW standard but I doubt my stealer would be giving oil away to make way for stuff that wasn't VW approved.

Perhaps the OP's service was cheap as they used their stock of Quantum but didn't charge him for it?  Otherwise I'd be worried why they were using Quantum when other dealers are giving it away?

Are you sure that it wasn't Mobil ESP 5w30, because that is the only Mobil oil approved to LL standards?!

Personally , i would seek advise from someone that could explain the different grades and whether using 502 oil is suitable.

or people could search the forum to find This Thread

 :nerd:
great link and Fully explained. cheers Rhys

Seems that oil does need to be changed and car service more regularly.

no worries but unless i'm mistaken that thread says 502 is fine for T&D servicing

One of the VW standards for conventional (non-LongLife) Time and Distance servicing for petrol engines is 502.00.  This is usually a fairly high spec fully synthetic oil, normally 5W40.

You arn't mistaken - from the date that post was written:wink:

However, things have officially changed SINCE I wrote that thread.  From December 2008, 502.00 was no longer authorised for ANY servicing in accordance with official advice.  The ONLY spec of oil which can be used in ANY/ALL official franchised workshops (VW, Audi, Seat, Skoda) is just 504.00/507.00 - and this is for both LongLife (obviously ), AND T&D services.

So to clarify, IRRESPECTIVE OF YOUR SERVICE REGIME - THE ONLY OIL TO BE USED IS LONGLIFE 3.   :nerd:

Hope this clarifies it.

BTW, ping me a PM next week to update that thread.

The invoice states Mobil 0w30...

The Quantum Synta Gold I was given for free was to 502.00 / 505.00 standard.

Sheeeet - that is what a LongLife2 viscosity was.  Now it is still OK to use LL2 in the GTI (VW 503.00) - trouble is, Mobil NEVER had any LL2 approvals!!!!   I would personally get that drained out and refilled with some 'proper' stuff!

It will be fine in your lawnmower, or to oil the rust hinges on your shed door - GTI-wise, I think you know what I'd say!
