Well after having 3 more Mk5's then you Mew, then perhaps a touch more possibly

Irrelevant, but thankyou for sharing that.
My Pleasure

Your point for that remark is what?? . I havent got a clue what a mk1 or 2 is to service, and thats why i dont waste peoples time in your owned car section.

At the end of the day, its up to the O.P where he takes it.
All im saying is thats NOT VW service price with longlife oil.
Perhaps servicing ever 6000 miles is more appealing to him, therefor 2 services a year would be required for changing the oil AGAIN!

I think this is the biggest response to a post I've had on here, quite a debate going on

It was Advantage VW in Stirling that done the service for me. (Closest one to me)

I think that the oil used was Quantum and VW502 (only had a quick look)

I will have a read at the receipt and see what they done and how much they charged for everything and let you all know.

I went into my dealer about a week before my service was due to get a litre of oil as it needed topping up.  My dealer used to supply Quantum gold whenever I went in for oil.  The guy went round the back and came out with a 5L tub.  Thinking he had misheard me I said it was only a litre I was looking for.  His reply was that I could have the 5L for free as they were no longer allowed to sell Quantum as it had been superseeded.

Sure enough on the receipt for the service it showed that they had used Mobil 0W/30.  I know TT was maintaining some time ago that Mobil wasn't properly accredited to the VW standard but I doubt my stealer would be giving oil away to make way for stuff that wasn't VW approved.

Perhaps the OP's service was cheap as they used their stock of Quantum but didn't charge him for it?  Otherwise I'd be worried why they were using Quantum when other dealers are giving it away?

arh hense cheap price. 504 is the longlife oil and pretty much all mk5 owners will only use, i wouldnt use anything else in my Ed30.
Free oil is good , as long as it doesnt cause problems with the TFSI lump.
Personally , i would seek advise from someone that could explain the different grades and whether using 502 oil is suitable.

I have my first service booked in for next week.
I was quoted £80 (T&D).
I opted for the LL, which is £124.

Since the 3rd service is supposed to be the same as the first, Im pretty sure you've had a T&D service - not a LL service.

great link and Fully explained. cheers Rhys

502 is a cheap alternative, but half the life of the 504 Longlife stuff.

Seems that oil does need to be changed and car service more regularly.

no worries but unless i'm mistaken that thread says 502 is fine for T&D servicing

One of the VW standards for conventional (non-LongLife) Time and Distance servicing for petrol engines is 502.00.  This is usually a fairly high spec fully synthetic oil, normally 5W40.

Yes the Longlife (more expensive stuff will last as long as 2 years instead of the old spec 502, which they say was used on Time and distance.

Im of time and distance, but i specified Longlife oil on my TD service , and its a better quality oil.

urm they're different specs........and the 502 is still suitable for T&D servicing
