slight oil burning
« on: 04 August 2009, 18:27 »
As the title suggests i seem to be burning oil now.

Not sure how fast its burning it yet as light came on but before this i didnt check it, but does the 1.8t normally burn any oil?

only done 60k, no visible smoke,

Is it the oil pressure light thats coming on, have you checked the oil level?

Hi there

I too have a 1.8 20v turbo, and of late I have noticed a little oil consumption may be half a litre in 2 months and 2500 miles, albeit hard miles !! Like you, no smoke or rattles. Its been remapped by the lads at Rtech and does get a bit of a work out. Saying that I have only just run it in ....110 K later !!
From asking similar questions myself it would seem that they do tend to use a bit, according to the handbook its normal
How much is it drinking ?

Just checked this again and bad bad news.

Its lost 1L of oil in 2 weeks, Still no bad smoking.

No power loss but i think it maybe the turbo as i took off the large black pipe going to the throttle body and it had oil sitting in it.

More investigating tomorrow as i will take off the bottom pipe, bet its full of oil.

Its standard by the way.

Sounds like the oil seals have perished in the turbo.  :(

I'm surprised you haven't seen any grey smoke coming out of the exhaust??  :undecided:
