Do you need speaker adapters for an MK3 Golf?
« on: 01 August 2009, 21:05 »
Hi guys,

As above, do aftermarket components fit straight in as i remember on my MK4 i needed to buy adapters as they were catching when the
window came down?

Cheers.

You want 6.5 inch & they'll fit straight in. Just make sure the mounting ring isn't too thick or you'll have to file away the bits that stick out that the grilles attach to.

Also, as i don't want to go down the amp route, can i just connect my new speakers to the existing stock wiring, & same with tweeters?

Will an after market HU give enough oomph to power them without an amp as i don't have music too loud really.

Cheers.

Aftermarket hu generally only gives around 25wrms. Aftermarket budget comps usually round 50-80wrms.

They'll sound better & be louder than standard.

With stock wiring if you get updated comps you can run the standard speaker cable into the crossover, but you'll have to run new cable from crossover to midrange & tweeter.
