Squeeky brakes

I know squeeky brakes could be due to a few things. It could be dirt, pads need changing or something more sinister!

My brakes squeek during light breaking, if I break hard there is no squeek at all. The squeeking is also at its worst when the brakes have warmed up a bit.

Does this give anyone any clues as to what it could be?

I'd be looking at new pads, they perhaps glazed up...  Does it squeak noticeably when just running normally, ie without applying the brakes?  Squeak change when turning at all or any steering feedback under braking?

My car is being looked at today for similar problems.  I know the disc has warped again (brakes juddering), so I'm waiting for news of a possible sticky caliper and maybe problems with the hub / bearing

No, there is no squeeking when running normally...only when braking. The squeek does change when i turn in both directions. What does this mean? No judder problems whatsoever.

Take your front wheel off and check the condition of the pads. The outer one might look ok but the inner one will run down more.

Check the pads and discs. And you can replace them fairly easily yourself, no need to bleed the brakes for this. Save yourself a fortune. Buy Mintex pads on ebay.

Anti rattle shim/plate behind the pads either missing or not working properly, some people don't change them with new pads as they don't always come with new ones.

woudlnt want any of use working on my car then lol squeeky brakes is usually corrosion and dirt stuck onto the pad carrier and when applying the brake the squeek is the dirt on the pad onto the disc causing this annoying noise, strip down ur front brakes clean the pad carriers+pads up regrease them and you should be sorted mate , bearing in mind the pad has life left in it obviously

Check the pads.

Someone on Edition38 wrote a guide for the MK3 pad change, pretty much the same as the MK4. I'll link it to you when it's back.

Could be many things though.

i have the same noise from my front pads when i paint my calipers im removing the pads and putting some anti seize compound on the backs of the pads as in my experience this will be causing the noise

Also forgot to add that the squeeking dissappears when its wet.
