Not sure I understand the bit about being in control when braking but the initial problem I had (coming from manual to DSG) was when braking for a corner (left hander off a main road for example) the road speed was obviously decreasing because of me braking but the box wasn't always in the gear I expected - so were in a manual I would take it for example in 2nd, the golf was sat in 3rd. What this highlighted to me was maybe I was carrying too much speed before I made the turn so now I find my braking approach has changed to get the DSG working for me. The other option was to blip it down one manually on the paddles

I don't know if you have paddle shift but has she tried the box in "manual" (sequential) - maybe if she was controlling the gears she would feel better - obviously if she screws it, it will change up automatically (maybe manual, sport is her option

)
It is difficult one - you will see on this forum lots of discussion on DSG - it's like Marmite

Hope she gets used to it - not sure I would be ar$ed selling up so close to getting it
