Non Starter
« on: 29 July 2009, 19:09 »
Hi guys, my poor wee 16v is refusing to start.

Last week i had problems with my cd wire loom, s took it to audio advice in glasgow and he said there was something up with the live feed on the ISO cable so he would run a new one from the batter, on returning to audio advice he said he managed to find a new place to run a feed from, somewhere behind the glove box, i said thats fine, just aslong as it dont kill the battery, he said no it wont.

This was last Tuesday afternoon, car was fine right up monday.

On monday, went to the car as normal, tried starting, it started but felt as if it was lacking power starting up..... drove it about 15/20 miles turns off and couldnt get started again, had to get a push it and bump start it, started no bother and drove about 20miles again to try and get a charge in the battery. However yesterday it wouldnt start at all. So i posted up on a local forum, got advice to get a muiltmeter or volt meter, to check the alternator. I thought ide try charging the batter first, so battery out, plugs into house charger, 1/4 charged, so let it charge and fired it back in, still not starting.

While trying this, i think i turned the engine over about 3/4 times and a smal puff of smoke came out of this :

Could this be my problem?

What is this?

As you can see there's a wire running from the distributor cap.

This is rattling my head

That would be your coil pack.

I would take it back to audio advice as all your problems seemed to start after they did what they did.

Fair enought, but 1 week after?

If its the coil pack, i cant see that be related to the cd player if im honest.... but i dont know anything about car electronics
