Losing power over bumps
« on: 29 July 2009, 08:43 »
I have this very strange problem with the golf, it periodically loses power in varying degrees. This could happen at 80mph on a flat motorway, or the minute I pull out of the driveway in the morning. The only thing I have noticed is that going over a bump sometimes triggers it, which says to me something may be loose - but what?

When it loses power, it could be to any degree - it could lose a little power or pretty much all of it. When it does the car feels asthmatic, and when it's bad the exhaust sounds like it's sputtering. I don't think it's the dizzy cap/rotor or leads as I've recently replaced these. Any ideas?

If it's a PB, could be the plug on the MAF sensor?  Worth checking it's not corroded at all...
